Warmer Than Gold
Warmer Than Gold, the new album from Ben Cook’s project GUV, is a widescreen blend of power pop hooks, breakbeats, and Britpop swagger. Known for his work in No Warning and Fucked Up as well as a prolific solo career, Cook now pushes further into a rhythmic, euphoric sound that channels Madchester energy and shoegaze shimmer while staying rooted in his sharp pop instincts. Written between London and Los Angeles with longtime collaborator JMVII and featuring contributions from Hatchie and Meg Mills (Turnstile), the record moves with unstoppable motion—equal parts rave-rock belters, dreamy indie pop, and Sarah Records–inspired jangle. Lyrically, it captures Cook slipping between worlds: the globalized churn of status and noise, and a dreamlike space of escape and connection. Urgent, glowing, and communal, Warmer Than Gold is both a critique of the present and a celebration of the endless rush of life in music.
